HELPcare Clinic opens in February

Most people think health care today is unaffordable, impersonal and ineffective.

Starting in February, HELPcare Clinic brings a refreshing new option to Austin, Minn.

I retired from Mayo Clinic last August to help my long-time friend, Dr. David Strobel, start his new clinic in our hometown.

Here's how its membership-based direct primary care model will work:

For an affordable monthly fee, members get unlimited primary and preventive care services. It's most of the health care most people need for most of their lives.

In addition to scheduled appointments, your membership includes timely care when you're sick, as well as phone calls, video visits or text message conversations if those communication methods are more convenient for you.

The vast majority of diagnostic blood tests also are included at no extra charge. Those typically cost hundreds of dollars per person each year, usually out-of-pocket even with health insurance. The HELPcare Clinic dispensary also will include many generic medications as part of your membership.

Your HELPcare Clinic membership not only provides the unhurried, personal care you need and want: it also includes access to services that will help you take charge of your own health.

HELPcare Community and HELPcare Coach provide information, peer support and coaching to help you make lifestyle changes that can prevent or even reverse disease, reducing the need for medications. These are available separately, but are included at no extra charge for HELPcare Clinic members.
