Expanding Access through HELPcare Foundation

HELPcare Clinic provides consistent, unhurried primary and preventive care through an affordable membership. It's most of the health care most people need for most of their lives.

We're motivated by our calling to love and serve our neighbors in this way, and we're gratified by the response, seeing more than 500 people in our community become members.

And that's why we're pleased to announce the formation of HELPcare Foundation to make membership available through partial scholarships for those who can't afford the full dues, and for other educational and health-promotion purposes.

We're grateful that Linda LaVallie has agreed to serve as Executive Director for HELPcare Foundation and will lead development of its programs. On Tuesday, she told her personal health story and related her HELPcare Clinic experience, and below she describes her motivation for taking on the HELPcare Foundation leadership role:

I’ve spent the majority of my adult life working in social service, advocating for those that, for one reason or another, are unable to advocate for themselves. I’ve spent many years working with low-income families, families with disabilities, families facing health disparities, and immigrant families to make sure they are well-connected to services available to help them succeed. My passion for this area of service started with my own struggles—I would not be where I am today if not for some very special men and women who advocated for me and helped lift me out of the trenches.

My life philosophy is the old adage, “It Takes a Village” but this applies to so much more than child-rearing. This applies to ALL of us, as brothers and sisters in Christ. We are to help lift those around us—to help protect, educate, and support—so that those who are struggling can find hope. With hope comes the drive to reach that light at the end of the tunnel, and the motivation to work towards self-sufficiency. I have found, time and time again, that the very people who struggle are those most willing to turn around and pour into the system that helped them succeed. For some, it's a quick step up. For others, it’s a journey of years. Each person’s journey towards true wellness and self-sufficiency is unique, just as they are, and I truly have a passion to help each person achieve that dream.

In my role with the HELPcare Foundation, I look forward to reaching out into the community and helping to bridge the gap between those in need and the services the HELPcare Clinic provides. I am very excited to begin planning health initiatives within our community, addressing some of the very real concerns we see before us, along with the health disparities faced by those in need. I know we can and will make a difference in the health of our community!
