Winning the War on Carbs: HELP Explained
Weight loss on a ketogenic diet can feel like a war on two fronts.
Your body and physical cravings are on the one side of you; your mind and habits on the other.
When you start to limit carbohydrates, your carb-adapted body is not happy. It launches a counteroffensive against you, with cravings and decreased energy as its weapons of choice.

How can you fight back?
Getting Satisfied
The answer is to increase your intake of healthy fats and protein. Too often it can seem like changing your diet is a punishment, but that doesn’t have to be the case! As Dr. Dave and Lee say in the HELP, if you are constantly feeling hungry and deprived you’re doing it wrong.
Meat, cheese, eggs, almonds, walnuts, avocados, olive oil, butter, and heavy cream are your best tools to counteract your carb cravings. They won’t spike your blood sugar and will leave you feeling full and satisfied; unlike carbs, which will leave you wanting more and more.
You’ll also want to make sure that you are getting enough electrolytes to help keep your energy levels up. We recommend LMNT electrolyte drink mixes as a tasty way to make sure you are getting what you need. You can stop by HELPcare Clinic and get some from us, or you can order online here. Otherwise, you can always just mix some salt into a glass of water (Himalayan pink salt is my favorite), whatever works best for you.
Winning the War
When you find satiety through healthy fats and protein, you help neutralize your body’s attack on your weight loss goals and it gets easier.
But this is only half the battle.
Even when the cravings have subsided, it can be hard to avoid falling back into your old comfortable habits of eating. To win and achieve your goals you’ll need to keep working to change your habits and the way you think about food.
This is very hard to do on your own.
Luckily, HELPcare Coach individual and group coaching sessions are available for $49/month (or $490/year) and are included in HELPcare Clinic membership at no extra cost.
