Turn Back the Clock on Your Health!
When Dr. Dave Strobel and I conceived what has become HELPcare Clinic in late 2019, we saw coaching and support for lifestyle changes as an important element.
If we could help members get and stay healthy it would be a win for everyone: members get the benefits of better health, and if they stay healthier they won't need to be seen in the clinic as often. That will reduce the cost of providing care.
But more importantly, helping people with their health and their health care was the main motivation for me to take early retirement from my public affairs job at Mayo Clinic.
It was the whole point.
My wife Lisa and I had embarked on a health journey starting in 2016, and after a couple of years of learning from physicians, researchers, and journalists that I call my Health Sherpas (and consulting with my high school friend, Dr. Dave) we came to understand that limiting carbohydrate intake and fasting are two of the most important levers to pull in restoring metabolic health.
And weight loss is a welcome side effect!
By the time I retired from Mayo Clinic in August 2021, Lisa and I had each lost more than 40 lbs. (even during the midst of the pandemic). We also had coached some friends who had gotten great results (see Kevin's, Curt's and Jason's stories.)
Coaching would certainly be part of what we offered for members of HELPcare Clinic, but we also wanted to help as many people as possible, wherever they lived, to learn from our experience.
That's why Dr. Dave and I produced HELP: The Health, Energy & Longevity Plan and made it available as a FREE download on this site. It's a distillation of what I've learned from my Health Sherpas through scores of books and hundreds of podcast episodes and videos, and is informed by Dr. Dave's three decades of experience as a family physician with a special interest in metabolic syndrome.
Lisa and I also use that booklet as the framework for our individual, couple, and small group metabolic health coaching. We've worked with nearly a hundred people, and some of them have graciously shared their stories, including Michelle, Dan and Carrie.
We've found that there are common themes that we regularly share in our coaching, and so we decided to produce an eLearning course called HELPcare Coach.
Today we're releasing the first unit in the course, which is comprised of seven lessons. Here's the opening minute of the first lesson, which describes our motivation:
We have four more units in production, and plan to add one each month to the HELPcare Coach course as they're completed.
Eventually we'll be asking HELPcare Clinic members to complete this eLearning Course before we meet with them individually for coaching. This will enable us to spend less time teaching the same materials, and more time helping them with the specific questions or issues they have.
But just as HELP: The Health, Energy & Longevity Plan is available free to anyone, regardless of where they live or whether they're a HELPcare Clinic member, we're making the HELPcare Coach eLearning course free as well.
We want to help as many people as we can, and the incremental cost of more people downloading HELP or going through our eLearning courses is essentially $0.
That's why we've making them free to all: we don't want to create a cost barrier to you getting this information that could help you change your life and prevent or even reverse disease.
If you'd like to support our mission, you could contribute to HELPcare Foundation, which provides partial scholarships for those who can't afford the full HELPcare Clinic membership dues.
Or you could share this post with your friends by email or on your social networking accounts, to help them make positive lifestyle changes.
But there's absolutely no obligation. We feel blessed to have this information and to be able to share it, and want to help as many people as possible.
So I hope you'll sign up for the HELPcare Coach course and also take advantage of the nearly 20 other eLearning courses that feature Dr. Dave teaching on topics ranging from Acne, ADHD and Antibiotics to Skin Care, Supplements and The Allergy Cascade.
They're rich resources, and also offered at no charge.
All you have to do is create a FREE account here on HELPcare.health, and then you'll have access to all of these courses, as well as our HELPcare Community, where you can join discussions find online support from others who are on a similar journey.
We look forward to serving as your guides, just as my Health Sherpas helped us!
