Happy 60th Birthday Dan Christianson!
One of the great pleasures Lisa and I get in our roles as coaches at HELPcare Clinic is working with people who want to improve their health through lifestyle changes.
I knew Dan more than 40 years ago when we were both in high school, but we reconnected last October when he came in to HELPcare Clinic for his Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. He and his wife Carrie became members the next month, and Lisa and I meet regularly with them for coaching sessions as they're using a low-carb diet with intermittent fasting.
When he started last November, Dan weighed 376 lbs. His Hemoglobin A1c, a measure of average blood sugar over the previous three months, was 9.5%, which is well into the diabetic range. He had high blood pressure and was taking multiple medications to control it.
Dan's health started improving right away. By mid-February his A1c was down to 6.3. His blood pressure has improved and he's taking fewer medications and lower doses.
As Dan changed his eating patterns and started to restore his metabolic health, his weight loss started too. And when he stopped in the office Thursday on his 60th birthday, he was 57 lbs. lighter than when we first saw him.
Dan is far healthier than he was on his 59th birthday...or probably his 55th. He hasn't been at this weight for at least 10 years. He's still about 100 lbs. from his goal, but he's on the right track. And he's committed to get there because he's found a way that works for him.
See the video of yesterday's weigh in, as well as his story from earlier this year.
Today Dan's having a birthday celebration at Living Bible Church in Austin from 1-4, and he and Carrie would be glad to have you join them.
