Betsy Morem: ‘I’ve never felt more in charge of my health!’

Betsy Morem is the co-owner of The MOD Medspa in Austin, and in August 2023 she became a member of HELPcare Clinic. She recently shared reflections on her experience as a member and how it differs from health care she's received elsewhere:

"What I love about the (HELPcare Clinic) atmosphere is that it's very welcoming, very personal, as compared to many other clinic settings that I've had experience with," Betsy explains. "I don't feel intimidated when I walk through the door. It has that feeling like you're going to see your hair stylist...It's just a completely different feeling than what I've experienced in the past.

"I have been wanting to take a more proactive approach to my health for a long time now, and I didn't really know how to go about that. Where I was going before, the system felt a bit intimidating, and I was not seeing somebody consistently. What I was really looking for was continuity in care. I'm really grateful because I've never felt more in charge of my health before. And I finally get to, when I'm asked the question 'Who is your primary care person?' on a form, I get to write a person's name, which I don't think I've ever been able to do in my adult life."

That person's name for Betsy is Stephanie Kimmes. Stephanie is a family nurse practitioner and pediatric nurse practitioner who joined HELPcare Clinic in May of 2022.

"Stephanie makes me feel at ease," Betsy says. "She's a very warm, kind person. She is very thorough in her consultative process. I just really feel like she has my best interest in mind.... She's very eager to let me know where she can help out, or let me know where I can find the resources I need. The relationship that I've built with my provider is something I've never experienced before in my medical care history."

As co-founder and managing partner of an accounting firm, Betsy also appreciates the value of services included in HELPcare Clinic membership. "What I find really unique and beneficial about the membership is that you pay one price and you don't get an unexpected bill in the mail, unlike going to the hospital, (where) you often never know how much that service, exam or treatment is going to cost you.

"There's a lot of things included in your membership, and if something is not they have the resources to go out and price that service or that exam for you. I love the price transparency."

"The other differentiator for me with the HELPcare Clinic is the versatility of the services.... I've been able to see doctor Stephanie not only for my annual physical but also for a blood test as well as a skin check. It's really nice to have a sort of one-stop shop for a lot of my health care needs.

"Especially as a mother of two young children, It's very important to me that I know where my health stands, and that I'm staying on top of my annual physicals and my annual blood draws... My family has a membership now and I'm very excited for my husband to be able to take a more proactive approach to his health as well as to get more consistent care for my children."
