Seeds of the HELPcare Revolution

In the official debut episode of Take Charge with HELPcare, Dr. Dave Strobel joins co-host Dan Hinmon and me to reflect on how HELPcare and HELPcare Clinic came to be, starting with a fateful coffee get-together on Oct. 12, 2019.

That morning Dr. Dave told me about the union-owned clinic where he was employed, and how it provided its members unhurried care and free lab tests, along with many other benefits.

Inspired by the idea of having a clinic like that in our hometown, but one in which anyone could purchase a membership, I decided to go back to school online to get an MBA in Healthcare Management.

That led me to take early retirement from Mayo Clinic in August 2021 to found HELPcare LLC, which provides management services for the clinic known as HELPcare Clinic that we helped Dr. Dave open in Austin, Minn. in February 2022.

HELPcare also provides metabolic health coaching and support to HELPcare Clinic members through programs such as HELPcare Challenge.

Our goal is to help many other primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to become partners in clinics in which they're owners, not just employees.

Even if they don't have a high school friend who's ready to get an MBA to help make it happen.
