Family Matters: The Heart of HELPcare

Many of our members have said they appreciate "the family feel" at HELPcare Clinic, and I think that's a reflection of our passion to build relationships with our members to help them take charge of their health.

Those relationships are possible because practitioners' patient panels are limited to several hundred instead a few thousand, and because of the membership model of care: You're a member, not a number. And because we're not filing insurance claims, it keeps administrative costs low so your care can be personal and affordable.

The family feel at HELPcare Clinic has its origins in the fact that our management services company that supports it, HELPcare LLC, is a family business. My wife Lisa was the first HELPcare Clinic receptionist and served part-time in that role for three years, and together we did health coaching until we added Jane Connell to the team. Lisa and I have six married children, and all of them (and/or their spouses) have been involved, including Rebekah Gatzemeyer, who was among the first nurses at HELPcare Clinic and established the lab.

This week's episode of Take Charge with HELPcare features two of them who have been deeply involved on the HELPcare LLC management team: our oldest daughter, Rachel Borg, and our middle son, Joe Aase. Thanks to technology they have been able to play crucial (and growing) roles with HELPcare, even though they live in Kansas and in the Twin Cities.
