Weekend Video: Are We Blaming Salt for What the Sugar Did?

Today we begin a weekly in-depth educational series featuring experts from around the world who have been pioneers in demonstrating the benefits of low-carb nutrition.

Six years ago this month, Lisa and I began our health journey that led to us each losing more than 60 pounds. We learned so much from physicians, scientists, journalists, and patient advocates who I came to consider my Health Sherpas.

Like the sherpas in Nepal who help those climbing Mount Everest, my Health Sherpas are people who've developed deep understanding and experience with the dietary terrain, and who can therefore serve as guides to effective strategies.

Building what I've learned through our journey and on his professional perspective and experience, Dr. Dave Strobel and I developed HELP: The Health, Energy & Longevity Plan as a concise distillation of what works for those interested in restoring metabolic health through lifestyle changes.

For those interested in digging deeper, we set up the HELPcare Clinic lending library and our Amazon Associates book store. We want to encourage that personal investigation.

Our new Weekend Video series will provide an in-between option, as you'll see insightful presentations from my Sherpas that complement the original content in our Learning Modules.

Hopefully you'll even find them entertaining!

We'll post a new one each Saturday, so hopefully you can find time to watch them over the weekend.

We're kicking off the series with a presentation from Dr. David Unwin that was published last month on the Low Carb Down Under channel on YouTube: "Are we blaming salt for what the sugar did? An old fashioned detective story?"

Dr. Unwin is a general practitioner in the UK's National Health Service who had seen the number of his patients with Type 2 diabetes increase by 800% over about 25 years.

Until one patient changed his perspective, he had never seen any of them reverse it.

Since then, Dr. Unwin and his wife Jen, a psychologist who leads group coaching sessions, have helped more than 100 patients reverse their diabetes and get off medications!

I think you'll enjoy this:

If you use Twitter, you should follow Dr. Unwin—his handle is @LowCarbGP—and my other Health Sherpas.

You also might want to check out the sugar infographics he's developed (he mentions this in the video). These help you understand the relative carbohydrate content of various foods in terms of their equivalent in teaspoons of sugar.

That's why you heard Dr. Unwin refer so negatively to bananas in the video.

To connect with others who are pursuing improved metabolic health through lifestyle changes, join our HELPcare Community. It's FREE!

Dr. Unwin and Jen also are among those who've inspired Lisa and me in the metabolic health coaching and support we provide through HELPcare, and which we include at no extra charge for members of HELPcare Clinic.

We're glad to be able help others as they and my other sherpas have guided us toward a healthier future.
