Conjunctivitis “Pink Eye”: Ask the Doctor
I have pink eye, how can I treat it? Do I need antibiotics? These are common questions patients ask when they have symptoms of conjunctivitis. HELPcare Clinic Nurse Practitioner Stephanie Kimmes shares about three types of conjunctivitis, the associated symptoms, and how to treat each form.
Stephanie discusses three types of conjunctivitis:
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis symptoms and treatment: Symptoms begin in one eye, and move to both eyes with redness and matting. Treatment includes warm packs and antibacterial topical drops.
- Viral Conjunctivitis symptoms and treatment: Symptoms include drainage that can be clear or stringy. Treatment that helps is over the counter lubricating eye drops and warm packs.
- Allergic Conjunctivitis symptoms and treatment: Symptoms include itchy, burning, stinging, and watery drainage. Treatment options are soothing eye drops, warm packs, and oral antihistamine.
