Perfect Your Sleep: HELP Explained

As we conclude our July focus on Sleep, which is one of the 10 elements of HELP: The Health, Energy & Longevity Plan, we turn again to Matthew Walker, Ph.D., who we introduced to you last week.

In this extended discussion with Professor Andrew Huberman, Professor Walker reviews the different phases of sleep and the crucial roles of both deep sleep and REM (rapid-eye movement) sleep, which is the phase during which dreams take place. He also discusses various strategies to improve sleep, including what we eat and drink and our activities in the hours before bedtime.

Watching this video is a wise way to invest three hours, because better sleep has powerful health benefits.

If you want to go even deeper, check out the three-part podcast series Dr. Peter Attia produced featuring interviews with Dr. Walker. (Part I, Part II, Part III). It's less visually interesting because it was recorded audio-only and only later uploaded to YouTube, but it's packed with useful information and practical sleep improvement tips.
