DOT Physical Exams, Drug Testing Available at HELPcare Clinic
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical to help determine whether a driver is physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to safely operate a commercial vehicle.
Drivers with commercial licenses need a DOT physical every 24 months, and employers of commercial drivers are required to perform random drug testing on half of their drivers each year.
The physical exams and drug tests must be done by medical staff who have completed special DOT training and certification. HELPcare Clinic will begin offering both services later this month, as Nurse Practitioner Stephanie Kimmes has completed the Medical Examiner certification and several of our nurses are certified for drug test specimen collection.
DOT Physicals are included at no extra cost for HELPcare Clinic members. This is part of our commitment to offering most of the health care services most people need for most of their lives through an affordable membership.
HELPcare Clinic also will contract with employers for DOT physicals and to administer their drug testing programs.
