HELPcare Group Fast IV Starts March 4
Limiting when you eat as well as paying attention to what you eat are key elements of HELP: The Health, Energy & Longevity Plan, the health guide Dr. Dave Strobel and I developed to give people a concise game plan for taking charge of their health. Learn more about HELP and get your free copy here.
In HELP we highlight the benefits of daily fasting, or in other words not being in continuous grazing mode. Having at least a 12-hour fast each day (not eating after your evening meal and then having a morning breakfast) is a great start and can be a big change for some people. As they get accustomed however, many find they can skip that morning meal as well, and just eat mid-day and the evening meal, for a 16:8 or 18:6 intermittent fasting schedule (doing all their eating during an 8-hour or a 6-hour window).
During the HELPcare Challenge, our 13-week program to HELP participants with coaching and support for health lifestyle changes, one week focuses on learning about fasting and encouraging at least this 12-hour fasting window.
About a year ago we developed the idea of a HELPcare Group Fast, to encourage HELPcare Challenge participants to stretch their fasting window a little beyond their new normal practice.
- If 12 hours of fasting has become the norm, stretch to 16 or 18.
- If 16 or 18 hours is normal, try for one meal a day (OMAD)
- If they've done OMAD, try for a multi-day fast.
It's not about peer pressure...it's peer support. Having several others on the same journey can make it easier and more fun.
We've also opened it up to others who aren't part of the challenge to join with us, and several HELPcare Challenge alumni have participated, too.
HELPcare Group Fast IV Starts Tuesday!
Our next group fast, HELPcare Group Fast IV, begins Tuesday, March 4 and runs through Friday, March 7.
It also happens to coincide with the beginning of Lent, which starts on Wednesday, so that might be another reason for you to give this a try.
I'll be fasting from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 1 p.m. Friday, doing a #3DayCancerPreventionFast.
If you'd like to join us for any part of the #HELPcareGroupFast, be sure to sign up for a website account so you can participate in group discussions. Please share your related experiences and questions in the discussion thread and in the comments on this post.
I'll be sharing updates and tips using the hashtags #3DayCancerPreventionFast and #HELPcareGroupFast on Facebook, LinkedIn and X, so follow and use those to participate in the discussion.
Yes a couple of times. We plan to do it once a month this year
That's a great plan! I've typically tried to do once every other month or once a quarter.
I'll be joining by extending my IF from 12 to 16 or 18 hr. What drinks do you consider okay on a fast? I try to stick to electrolyte drinks (sugar free) and water/coffee or tea.
That's what I do as well. I'll do black coffee and sparkling water (or plain) and then LMNT for electrolyte replacement.
Good morning! I am doing the 16:8! That works the best for me!
