HERBcare: An Introduction

Editor’s Note: We introduced Cheryl Block in a post last week. Cheryl is a retired Registered Nurse who has become an herb enthusiast. She also has been helping people find herbal remedies for health concerns and conditions. We invited her to contribute blog posts to share her herbal knowledge with the HELPcare community. This is the beginning of that occasional series.
I’m not sure when the transition from regular medicine to learning about herbs took root (pun intended), but take root and developed into rhizomes it has.
As an avid reader, in 2005 I bought and read a New York Times Best Selling book, The Maker’s Diet by Jordan S. Rubin. Rubin’s book presented a novel approach to a kind of diet program I had never heard of. Rubin also included reference to a health plan from God. In The Maker’s Diet, I was introduced to health and nutrition ground-holders, Sally Fallon and Dr. Weston Price; from that point on, I was engaged in online searches to learn more about “natural” health and healing and to learn more about God’s program.
In 2017, I stumbled into a maze of websites hosted by natural health practitioners, herbalists, and scientific research sites until I found Herb Mentor, where I took my first herb classes. During those first classes, I learned about a few individual herbs and how to make plant medicine.
Recipients of my herbal concoctions, mostly family and friends, started asking for refills and asked if there were herbs that might help in other situations. As I have continued to learn about what plants can provide to us in the way of improved health and bodily balance, my enthusiasm for plant remedies has kept pace with my desire to serve those who wish to follow a more natural path to health.
In the next HERBcare post, I will share with you a bit more about what herbs are and how to use them to benefit your health and wellness.
