Weekend Weight Loss Inspiration

I previously featured Vinnie Tortorich in this post about his film, Fat: A Documentary.

That video is 95 minutes and is well worth your time. Highly recommended.

The video below is just five minutes, and though I partially disagree with one of the points as I will explain below, so much is in line with what we're recommending through HELPcare and HELPcare Clinic that I hope you'll watch it right now:

Vinnie gets it right in a major way with the following points:

  • "Cut back on sugars, grains, carbohydrates and processed foods."
  • "Exercise is a poor way to lose weight."
  • "A little is better than nothing. More is better than a little."
  • "I care more about what you do between New Year's and Christmas than between Christmas and New Year's. On your birthday, enjoy the cake! On Thanksgiving, eat the stuffing! You can live a little and be healthy at the same time."

My only real disagreement is with his discussion of Vitamin D: he's right about its importance but wrong about how to get it.

Vinnie says natural Vitamin D that your body produces from sunlight is preferable to supplements.

That may be right if you live in Louisiana, where he grew up, or in Southern California.

For most of the United States, the sun simply isn't at the proper angle for much of the year to stimulate Vitamin D production through your exposed skin.

And with the outdoor temperature at 15 °F as I write this, exposed skin in Minnesota isn't a great idea anyway!

So take that opinion from Vinnie with a few handfuls of ice-melting salt, and see Dr. Dave Strobel's learning module on the Importance of Vitamin D.

If you're interested in joining what Vinnie calls "the Fitness Middle Class" we'd like to HELP.

HELP: The Health, Energy & Longevity Plan is the free resource Dr. Dave and I have written. I hope you'll request your copy.

We also have a challenge going on right now called "Losing Weight During the Holidays." You can join us Monday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. CST for a free virtual group coaching session. And chime in the social media discussion using #HolidayWeightLossHELP.

And join our free Discussions to connect with others who are on a similar journey to give and get support.
